The Higher Good Eco-Mix, a Groundbreaking Construction Solution in Central America

We Do More Than Build Homes. We Decrease Pollution & Create Jobs With the Higher Good Eco-Mix

Huge Problems Like Housing & Environmental Issues Need Innovative Solutions. Our Higher Good Eco-Mix Is Changing Lives in Central America

Pollution is one of the greatest problems affecting Central Americans of all ages and backgrounds. Guatemala, where we do the majority of our mission work, is heavily polluted by plastics, and it is devastating the local ecosystem. In addition to the pollution problem, safe housing is also a huge concern. Most rural homes are poorly built and not designed to withstand an earthquake. Muddy floors cause rampant illnesses, and Central American families are suffering because of it.

The Foundation for the Higher Good needed a solution to these compounding problems, and we found it in our Higher Good Eco-Mix.

Pave the way to a safer, cleaner future in Central America when you support our paver manufacturing & installation program

The Foundation for the Higher Good is making a remarkable impact in Central America by building small homes with our innovative Eco-Mix, a patented blend of cement, volcanic ash, and ground plastic. This unique mixture not only provides strong and durable construction but also repurposes discarded plastic, helping the environment.

We're excited to announce that we've expanded our mission to include manufacturing Eco-Mix pavers for city streets, parking lots, and driveways! Our pavers, rigorously tested by the
Missouri University of Science and Technology, have proven to be exceptionally resilient and durable.

We're partnering with the city of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala on several life-changing projects, with plans to extend our efforts to Magdalena Milpas Altas and Antigua. These cities are eager to maintain their streets in pristine condition and have shown great interest in our cutting-edge technology. However, they need our help to get started.

To pave just one block in each city, we need to manufacture at least 15,000 pavers. You can be part of this transformative initiative! By donating just $5.00 per paver, you can help us demonstrate the benefits of our Eco-Mix technology and make a lasting difference in these communities. Join us in paving the way to a brighter, cleaner future!

What is the Higher Good Eco-Mix & how can it help Central Americans live safer, healthier lives?

The Higher Good Eco-Mix is a combination of plastic flakes cut from recycled bottles, bags, and more. These plastic flakes are then combined with volcanic sand and water to create a strong, lightweight, and eco-friendly concrete mix. Traditional concrete production accounts for roughly 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, so by decreasing plastic pollution and greenhouse emissions, The Foundation for the Higher Good is solving two environmental issues at once.

Collecting plastic from roadsides, rivers, and fields for recycling into concrete material gives new life to single-use products, reducing pollution and improving local safety and quality. In fact, our mix, which used to require 4,000 units of plastic to mix, can now incorporate
8,000 plastic units for the eco-mix. That's 256kg, or 564lbs of plastic! But how do we collect all that plastic?

Families who receive houses from The Foundation for the Higher Good collect plastic bottles for the concrete mix, allowing those without money to contribute to the construction of their homes. This involvement includes their friends and family, creating a community effort that enhances local environments and relationships. By collecting plastic, people are active contributors, not passive recipients, fostering a sense of ownership and pride.

How are eco-friendly homes constructed in Central America?

To make the manufacturing and construction process easy, we designed the homes we build from the Higher Good Eco-Mix in separate components, including walls, windows, roofs, and doors. This modular style of construction makes it very easy to transport, deliver, and build the home.

When it’s time to build, we select local workers and teach them the construction trade. These workers have also contributed their own innovations and ideas, creating a strong sense of community and shared responsibility. As the demand for eco-friendly living grows, more people can be taught and employed, providing stable, well-paying jobs that boost the local economy. Job security is vital for well-being, giving people a sense of purpose and accomplishment. This stability helps reduce crime, gang involvement, and drug use, as people are less likely to turn to these activities when they have secure employment. Additionally, employing local workers ensures that profits stay within the community, further supporting the local economy and protecting against social and economic issues.
